What is network security?

According to my research net work security are set of  devices, processes combination also configuration that might be used to protect the integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility of computer networks and data  against unauthorized access, misuse, or theft (Forcepoint, 2022).

What tools are used to secure networks?

The most commonly used tools to secure networks are software as an example IDS ( Intrusion Detection System) and IPS (Intrusion Prevent System). (Geekflare, 2022)

Basically IDS IPS have the same function, both is software application or device used to detect suspicious activity and alerts the system or network administrator, identify or respond to anomalies taking actions such as blocking the user or source IP address from accessing the network (Cisco, 2022). 

The mainly IDS tapys are NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection System) HIDS (Host based Intrusion detection system) .

There are four types of IPS such as Network-Based Intrusion Prevention System (NIPS), Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS) Network behavior analysis (NBA) and Wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS).

What is the difference between WAN and LAN?

LAN or  Local Area Network, basically they are computer networks that cover small areas such as a home, office or building  whale WAN  is a network that covers larger areas such a campus of a university a city and can span the globe.

How can security be implemented in a WAN or a LAN?

There are many ways to secure the LAN and WAN network. During my research I selected some of the easiest ways to secure networks.

To protect LAN  you might change the router administrator credentials, also the password use a strong password, keep the hardware up to date, anti-virus or anti-malware security where hacking activities are introduce into the network through internal activities. 

The most common way to protect wan network is using software defined wider area network (SD-WAN) keeping everything updated, Traffic encryption and firewalls connectivity with the cloud.
